The Run

No sooner had we all found parking at Blackbeard's abode on Monday and word was out that the run was on. Down to the waterfront for the runners and up the driveway for the walkers. Quite a few minutes later, Cockroach caught up, she'd missed the announcement. On on up Landing Road past the roundabout to the corner of Mission Road for our first check.

After several runs set by Blackbeard over the years and many of us getting lost, or running out of, or beyond trail; Tight Bolt decided to back check from the check and so it was, ON ON down Edkins Road. Some didn't trust the back check and made their way to the Stone Store basin, more directly. Another check on Edkins Road had us re running a check and eventually on on down the Falls track to the stone store basin and the PS. The trail home past the Pa, was mostly ignored!

We made ourselves comfortable around the table and were upstanding for the circle. Most fines were for BB and his trail which was rated 9

A BIG THANK YOU to Adrian whose cooking and baking certainly was a "good feed".

Annual Report: From our GM. He thanked those who did most of the work behind the scene, mainly Magic Roundabout. Also remarked this year was different as it was the first time a Hash Run was abandoned because of the wet weather and then its re-run a few weeks later was postponed until Wednesday because of the wet weather forcasted. Asked are we getting soft? He considered us a truly magnificent Run, Walk, Eat and Drink Club.

Election of Officers for the next year. Black Beard nominated Robin Hood for GM. Knose nominated Tight Bolt as she was the longest standing member who had never held the post. Much discussion was held and it was decided they should be GM/ RA over the next two years and to share the jobs between themselves. Magic Roundabout had done such a good job as the Hash Cash she should continue to hold that post. Beer Master position to be held by Black Beard.

So the new committee is Robin Hood and Tight Bolt, (GM and RA), Magic Roundabout (Hash Cash) and Black Beard (Beer Master) It was decided that Haberdashery position was not needed.

Financial Report: $1266 in the bank, however the expenses for AGPU will lower that amount by several hundred dollars. A final total will be announced once all payments have been made.

General Business: The new committee is to discuss the form and arrangements of rewards for significant number of runs by individuals. This meeting to be held soon as some members are approaching 500 runs.

After Note: Knose was awarded a down down for his Tropical Dress (Rarotongan Grass skirt and bra) and TMO was awarded for being dressed the most different from his normal Monday night attire.

The upcoming Monday Run is to be arranged by the new GM’s.

The evening was a great success and enjoyed by all those present and a BIG thank you to Magic Roundabout and Cannibal for doing most of the work organising plus thanks to Duncan for cooking the fabulous ham. The Monday Run is to be arranged by the new GM’s.

Dunedin hash 1500th - Saturday 19th June

$50 covered drinks on the run at the 2 beer stops, food on the run at the beer stops, food at the Carisbrooke Hotel at around dinner time and again at supper time, food and drink at the Sunday Recovery Run plus probably a 1500th Patch or Yellow vest.

1-00pm Run started with the 80 odd hashers almost entirely made up of walkers. Runners – Muffdiver, Edaname ? Lots of visitors. Xerox brought up the rear as he looked after one of the not so well sighted Wellington guys. The 1st PS was at an idyllic spot on the waterfront. Here Real Deal was to earn a temporary Hash name of Bollard crasher. Plenty of beers and with the pack back together it was off past the Dunedin Railway Station and off up various steep streets and up into Jubilee Park. From there the trail wound over nearly 8km to a house PS - Sirloin and Lippy’s ? A packed garage with more beers and filled rolls to munch on. From there it was on back to the Hotel - a total distance travelled of around 11km for much of the pack. Many took up a short cut option from PS 1.

Circle at the Pub with RA Tastes like Shit leading the way. A few fines from Birdtable and fines from the floor. Plenty of songs. A strategic photo of one hashers rumpled backside led to another temporary Hash name of “Gae rasher “

Then it was into the dinner a fine array of old style tasty bits and pieces - touch shit for vegetarians of which there appeared to be none of thankfully. The locals did well out of this bountiful supply of food as leftovers were spread around. Dinner over and it was kick off time for the Trans tasman super final. Not such a good result for the locals.

Sunday 20th 11-00am recovery Run from Lippy and Sirloin’s attended by about 25 hasher who adjourned to a yum cha luncheon.

A great Hash weekend - thanks to Sirloin, Lippy, Dunedin GM ? Tastes like Shit, Comes on the Ceiling and any other Dunedin workers.

The 50th was a top night. Thanks to Dio for the albums and Loose Change for the photo booth. The sign that Listerean organized was an absolute cracker and he also organized the Spotify music. Good skills GM. The Hash flag was unable to be located. Last seen at Bighorn’s 1000th.

The photograph albums had many of the guests checking out the past.

Jubes has photos of Max and Sharkbait’s wedding, 7 Up and OFG’s nuptials, one of Butcher in a barrel and a lot of Hugo, Obs, Bananas and Gravy all of whom are sadly no longer with us.

Butcher is of course, still very much still with us. The photographic record Jubes has left us is terrific and it’s a pity we haven’t maintained records of subsequent years.

A lot of good photos of the Manukau Hash with Gonzo and Listerean (looking very chic) in much younger years.

There’s even a couple of newspaper clippings, one of Bananas and Demon’s rescue and a photo and article by Phil Gifford when he ran with the pack.

The night brought out some interesting memories as they include the Hussies, Manukau and a lot of Nash Hash and Inter Hash. Within the photograph albums was a photocopy of Titijig with a vibrator in hand. She was a good sport and took a fine for it – I’m sure she’ll speak to me again – eventually.

Good to see that Mongo was well enough to make the night. His kidneys have been giving him some strife, so it was pleasing that he was able to join us.

Nomad kicked off at 1pm Saturday although there were some pre lubes with about 20 hashers gathering in Taupo to join resident hasher Red Riding Hood, and also the organisers and friends set up shop at “Timeout” on the Friday night.

Saturday was assembling and set up camp day. Campervans, tents and cabins all over the place. Timeout is at altitude so the balmy temperatures of Napier were just memories with about 12 degrees and a cold wind. But there was heaps of firewood to keep the 3 outside drums going and the inside fire. Also the Mimi led chef team supplied a couple of warming soups. Over 80 hashers in attendance including a good contingent from the South Island and the far north travellers Magic and Cannabal. A welcome appearance of SomeMothers and Claws who easily took out the “Biggest vehicle” prize (if there was one).

Lots of drinking through the afternoon and into the evening. Bowls out on the lawn with Mole showing his representative experience on a rather rough green. Great evening meal and later snacks. Sky TV in the main lounge so the rugby watchers were able to watch the 2 trans tasman games. Not so good for Hurricanes fans. The Hash band led by Xerox, Crabstick and others took over later.

Sunday started with the clearing up of all the empty bottles from the night before and breakfast. Mongo and Feefifofum were dispatched in Mongo’s truck with about 40 cases of empty beer stubbies with aims to replenish the meagre full stocks remaining at the camp. Late morning was the scheduled main “run” with head hare Xerox heading off about 11am with 2 fellow hares. A good solid 8km for the runners and about 5km for the walkers. Good use of the limited terrain (no bush bashing possible) with a couple of out and back loops. Plenty of beer at the Piss-stop and then 1.5km back to the ranch.

A breather and it was into the main Circle. Kicking off the circle was Xerox, followed by NZGM Birdtable and then fines from the floor. Revs was in fine voice with the songs. A drinking contraption caused some hilarity as victims tried to drink from the swinging glass.

After the Circle the cocktail party started with Empha holding court. Into the night and there was another fine meal served up, more rugby, the disco tent and the various fire drums that served as drinking stations.

Monday was recovery run morning and clean up. Another wind up circle and the Wellington Hash - Tripod, Deepthroat, ABC, He’ll Keep, High Heels and Porkbox winning the nod (from a field of one) for organising Nomad 2022. Details to come

A top weekend hosted by Wee Knackers and Filler. Plus committee’s of both Garden City and Christchurch.

Friday arvo saw a convoy of vehicles and bikes meeting at Sheffield Pies then driving through Arthur’s Pass to Blackball. Some rendezvous point pubs turned out to be closed but the final one was open and it was beers and snacks in the sunshine as the America’s Cup yachts warmed up on TV. Friday night and the festivities centered on the Blackball Hilton. Here the beers flowed and the Hash band led by Dagy played into the small hours. Saturday morning and it was breakfast at the Community Centre with run start at 11am. Wee Knackers dazzled the 50 plus hashers with his splendid array of Trail signs including the new double check back. The infirm were sent off on a wander round town while the 40 or so athletes piled into 3 vans for a 10 minute drive into the country. Drop off and another complicated set of instructions. The 1st runners loop turned out to be 3km up a hill to the dreaded double check back, which took runners back to the initial runners walkers split. All trails led to a fantastic river swimming hole, complete with dodgy high bank for the dare devils to jump off. The piss cut and snacks consumed and another complicated set of van ferrying back to the Village green for lunch and Circle. Circle kicked off by Wee Knackers and then run by the Christchurch and Garden City RA’s and GMs Dingaling, STD, Navigator, RLD and Dagy. Lots of singing and laughter in the sunshine. From there it was back for more yacht races and rugby watching plus general hash drinking until the evenings entertainment at the Working Mens Club. Meal again provided by Mr and Mrs Wee Knackers. DJ Kareoke was the nights entertainment. The bar was set very low initially by a couple of very pissed locals, one of whom thought he was singer and the other a stripper. Eventually the cream of the Hash came through with voices like Mimi, Hornie, Dominetrix, KTT, Bolyx, Joe 90 and He’ll Keep. Again West Coast licensing hours. Sunday another cold misty start to the day with breakfast by Wee Knackers and Fillup and then warm sunshine for the recovery stroll to the disused mine down the road. Another entertaining circle and it was stumps. Wee Knackers announced that the 10 year anniversary weekend would be March 11 to 13 2022. Well done that man.

A fantastic week long celebration of Hashing in New Zealand. Nearly 200 hashers attended the main Nash Hash event hosted by Pania Hash at the Hastings showground over Friday to Sunday 5 to 7 Feb.

But many of these hashers also took in various road trip Hash events leading to NH21. For those coming up from the South Island the start was Takaka HHH 50th run on Sat 30th with around 30 hashers. Next day was Nelson HHH and then across the ditch to Wellington hosting over 60 hashers on the Monday. Then up to Energy HHH in New Plymouth for the Tuesday run and Taupo for Wednesday. Thursday was the every popular Fat Catz run from Tikotino. Friday afternoon was the Red Dress run at Clive raising money for a local special needs school.

For those coming FROM the North, there was the 100th run at Maungawhai, followed by runs hosted by Woeful and Mooloo hashes. Many of these attendees then joined the main road trip at Taupo or Fat Catz

Friday evening kicked off the main event. Saturday heralded the main runs around the iconic Te Mata Peak. Spectacular views as well as lovely bush tracks. Head hare Likka had been planning this for years. Back to the showgrounds in the afternoon for the drinking competitions and games. A top local band has hashers dancing into the night. Sunday was recovery run and meetings to elect the next NH venue (Takaka) and incoming NZGM - Birdtable. The official close down was followed by the unofficial cocktail party for the stayers. Well done Pania Hash, especially Likka, Metal, Petal, Shunter, 2 Jugs and MB.

Pub Golf . - 6 pubs over about 5km formed the course for Pub golf with hashers divided into teams of 3 or 4 and sent off with scorecards. Pints were the drink of choice, with one skull being a hole in one. Weather added an extra dimension as the formerly warm sunny day turned into a cold windswept rainy evening. More than one Uber was called upon for the less clothed. The free barbeque at Gasworks was very popular. The 6th and final hole was Seatoun RSA where a supper was served. Drinking into the night. All the old Hash books on display

Saturday 28th

11am 2000th run. Cold front had passed through and it was a lovely Wellington day. Although numbers looking thin until a few vehicles rolled in with various hashers stumbling out looking the worse for wear. Recycled Virgin welcomed the Hash and gave instructions on the 3 options for the day - Walk (Hare – Handle), Long run (Corpuscle) and Ballbreaker (RV). The usual mixed messages. More confusion on the run as the runners tried to sort out which was the BB and which was the LR. Eventually it was about 14km for the BB and 12k for the LR with the walkers doing much less and being at the Breaker Bay PS (and lunch) well before the runners trickled in. Lunch and beers with the initial supplies running out and emergency rations whistled up. Back to Seatoun RSA and circle up. RV ran the circle with the Committee acknowledged and the various Capital weekly awards given out before a representation of RA’s - Sharkey, Mimi, Shunter, Rigid, Toyboy, Sir Creamalot had a go before fines from the floor. Songs led by Fire, Hornie and MB. The evening consisted of the usual Hash frivolity interspersed by dinner and rugby watching. A couple of Hash jukeboxes.

Recovery run and circle which went ahead after another night cold front has passed through. Well done Capital hash. 2000 runs completed in just over 39 years.

We had a great 2020 bash at Waipu Cove Camp. We hosted 40 Hashers from all over the North Island. Hashers from Wellington, Tauranga, Napier, Auckland, Levin, Mangawhai and Whangarei. A big Run-walk set by Long John & Pricky (15km) with BBQ and piss stop on the way home. Some party goers had a big session on Friday night and were severely hung over for the run. No names will be mentioned as what goes on at Hash stays at Hash.

A fabulous meal was enjoyed by everyone and even pudding for the sweet toothed hashers.

A big thanks to everyone who helped with the event. I’m sure we will see photos on the face book page.

The usual gradual arrival of the rabble on the Friday
afternoon – chilly bins full and sun shining. Plenty of room for both campers and bed seekers. The camp was venue of Nash Hash 2015. Just on 50 attendees for the weekend.

Visitors included Mee Mee – the only South Islander, DT, Handle, Geestring (Wellington), Comes once, Spurt, Madonner Gawd Knose, Demon (Auckland) and Duph, Gonzo, Noodles, Metal, Petal and Xerox, from central North Island.

A big dent put in the beer supplies that lovely fine evening, as well as practise for some on the beer can bowling alley. Entries taken for the Saturday boat races.

Some drinking far into the early morning with Madonner and Noodles making early claims on loudest Snorers of the weekend.

A big programme for Saturday starting with a fine breakfast cooked up by Mogabe and Pokin in.

A pre run warm up was the blind beer tasting run by 69er. 6 beers to taste with 18 choices available. This became rather tricky as the beer flattened in the jugs.

Run started at 10.30 with runners and walkers splits. Not too onerous a trail, and finishing at a river swimming hole for circle and lunch. Also, shelter, as it turns out, as it pissed down soon after the run finished. Circle led by GM Flossy and RA Humpy. Hornie’s brother Force-it was recognized for his fledging Hash career of 11 runs.

Back to the camp and into the boat races once the rain had eased. The Mount ex-GM’s team triumphant with Crabtree and 69er the speedy anchors. Noone noticed until too late that they were an all male team. Although Bluevain did drink like a girl. The flying fox was started up but Gritty was the only brave one to try it out.

Dinner and into the evening with the Hash band of Crabtree, Perky and Xerox warming up for Queenstown. Harmony backup from Metal and Humpy. Dragon Lady an early casualty, suffering from an ill-advised choice of wine in the boat races.

Sunday morning and another fine breakfast supplied by the cooks. Recovery run round the camp and circle led by Humpy. Bluevain rounded out the circle by giving an update on NZ bid for Interhash. Then the assembled hashers were pressed into service for a video to send to Tobago. The required words for us to chant proved difficult to master – not so for version 2 of “Goa takes it up the arse”. Lubes and Smegma unanimous winners of “Quiet bastards of the weekend”

Well done Mount Hash - a great weekend.

24 rather confused hashers/virgins and simply curious and one pressed German, rocked up to the meeting point to car share to Puffs next adventure. The trail was set on private land, and the owner came along to see what all this hashing business ,was all about and give a spiel and the history of the farm. I explained to the motley crowd, that this was not a run or a walk, rather a ramble, taking in the history as we meandered through the bush, admiring the ancient Puriri, Totora and hashers.

out of the bush  the climbed up the bank to admire an old Maori PA, kumara pits and  listen to our host tell the story of the day the northern visited.

The trail was about an hour long and we ended up in a shady hollow and his Sharkeyness gathered the troops (or should I say crew) to circle around , he welcomed our virgin runners, and especially Nick a German tourist who got out of his campervan to ask directions and was promptly bundled in a car, and taken on the hash walk, he wasnt dissapointed and Puff (thats me) named him 4 minute man, which was about the length of time it took us to press gang him into hashing.

70 hashers enjoyed the Nelson Hash’s 25 year anniversary and 1500th run on the weekend of 15th to 17th November. 15 from Christchurch, 9 from Wellington, 1 Aucklander, 2 from Napier and the rest from Nelson. 

Most of the trials and tribulations for the weekend started on the Thursday and Friday with slips and car crashes delaying arrival times of the visitors.  Clear winners there were Dagy and Fingers who took 26 hours to make their journey from Christchurch.

 Festivities started on Friday night from 6pm with a gathering at the Postboy Hotel. Buy your own drinks at cheap prices and the hash put on a supper. Hashers from around the country trickled in as the travellers got through the detours, Local Hashers were out in force to welcome them, with a few old faces appearing. Mimi and Vominatrix rocked the bar with some great karaoke while the rest generally just made a lot of noise as the beer and hashing stories flowed freely. Photos were posted on FB till about 1am.

Saturday 10am – 1500th run from Branford Park, Maitai Valley, same location as Deputy Dawg & Gritz had gathered the first bunch of Nelson Hashers 25 years ago for Run #1. We had 5 Hashers running today: WENDY, Princess, DunnerWhy, DunnerIn and RLD who had also run on the first run and quite a few more that had been on the second run.

Well most of us had gathered there - We were still waiting for the beer to arrive. Generally hanging out for a beer at 10am is considered a bad thing, but it was quite common today. Luckily Stroker, Mole and MB turned up in the piss wagon before a lynch mob had formed.

 -  Good weather with the run starting around 10.30ish.  GM Shaggus congratulated the visitors who had made it to the start line despite the Nelson hash’s best efforts to detour them.  Plumley, the most prolific hound in Nelson was the Hare and he demonstrated the hash signs with dog Shadow demonstrating how flour gets licked up.  Enjoyable walk and run with the usual slackers who did neither.   

A few of the Hashers decided not to set their sights too high. Getting to the first check and back was enough for them. However, these Hashers set up a jam session with a couple of guitars and sang of their achievements for the rest of the morning.

Fart was back on the runners trail and back in fine form then his dog refused to run with him, chasing the walkers instead. Walkers and runners split as the trail reached the slopes of the center of NZ hill. Runners headed up then were checked-back over a fence and onto Kaka Hill. An easy run through the sheep paddocks turned serious as trail stopped at an 8ft high deer fence & gate. The front runners were most ungentlemanly as they all clambered over the gate then turned round and just watched as Fire In Da Ho struggled to get under it.

Ring Burner was leading the front runners to the top of the Center of NZ, but then led them right past the Hash Halt without waiting. The other runners enjoyed the view over Nelson as they waited for the stragglers. Trail left the path and went through the scrub for a while. Owlziemer tried to 2nd guess the Hare and ended up having to do a catch-up, but he did catch up by the time the pack reached to Piss Stop at the bottom of the hill.

A rousing circle kicked off by Shaggus with guest spots to NZGM Shunter plus visiting RA’s from Wellington and Christchurch.  Songs led by Fire N Da Ho and Hornie.  Belly button fluff was exchanged by Sticky Willie and new shoes were christened by Eanie Meanie Weanie and Owlzeimer. Best fine for runners by Buttswallower who demonstrated in fine fashion how Fire had tried to slip under a fence that the runners were having to clamber over one by one. The afternoon continued with a large bunch of us boarding the mystery bus and leaving the park towards? ? ? ? ?

Saturday 2pm to 6pm – Mystery Bus Tour.  A full bus of over 50 hit the road as the rain set in. But with comfortable craft bars to visit and a dry but alcohol laden bus, who cared.  1st visit was the original McCashin brewery.  Fee Fi Fo Fum made a nuisance of himself trying to help anyone who showed the slighted sign of being unsteady.  Mimi and friends ruled the back of the bus in good mafia fashion.  Stoker softened the mystery a little when his commentary included the next destination, but it was still a surprise for those that weren't listening to him.

So most of the bus had no idea that we would soon pull up at NZ's oldest pub, The Moutere Inn. More pints of craft beer or tasting platters for those that couldn’t decide on one.

Drunkenness steadily increasing although only Buttswallower was denied service at the last bar - The Golden Bear Brewery in Mapua. It was rather ironic that our token American was denied service here since the Golden Bear was started in 2008 by a fellow American, Jim from L.A. who moved here to “show the Kiwis how to make good beer”.

The bus trip ended at Smugglers Bar in Tahuna, most of the Hashers had a pint or twohere, but then groups separated and did whatever they felt like – or just went home for a sleep.

Sunday 10am – 3pm Social gathering and lunch at Tasman Bay Cruising Club.

A very pleasant gathering with lots of Nelson hash memorabilia on display.  Walk round the waterfront and final circle at a rotunda by the yacht harbour where port and green ginger wine were served up by the lovely barmaids Hornie and Wrench-it.

Back just in time for lunch and the circle which focused on the Hashers that had come and gone over the last 25 years.  Sir Teddy Bare particularly entertaining.

Well as usual, the sun came up for our annual Labour weekend run, but it was quite windy, so Hare Nailbag, decided that the run at Te aria point might be best delayed and set a run locally.

10 or so enthusiastic runners/walkers arrived, we welcomed back the GM Sharky and tatie , returning from thier trip to Alaska .  onon ,we headed off in the direction of the estuary,  led by bush blower,  now hare nailbag, being a good man, gave the slow walkers a bit of a clue, now with that information, snout decided to head of staright to the piss stop, this confused the front runners, who gvisitore ot into a "where  the flick are we mode". Rear not all was resolved and we all made it to the piss stop.  After the pack was fed n watered,  it was back on home.  

Great circle by the GM, nail bag was fined as the hare, and we welcomed virgins Joanne and Charmaine,  snout was fined for front running and visitors Giraffe and 007 ( waihi h3) where welcomed  .  Giraffe was

fined as birthday girl , then the circle was disabanded to the onononon and Puffs place.

NSH3 No Reason Weekend 2019

 

The NSH3 No reason Weekend was held on the 23rd to 25th August 2019 at the Huia Lodge in Huia. Had 22 hashers attend the weekend all either current or ex NSH3 or NWH3 hashers, the furthest traveller being FUCT from Waikanae closely followed by Metal & Petal, Patangata & Gonzo, Rotorua the rest being from the Greater Auckland area.

Friday night kicked off with usual meet and greet and getting merry with some playing games and other just kicking back as hashers do. A quiet nite with the last heading for the sleep sack at 1am, must be a sign of the times.

Saturday morning kicked off with a hearty breakfast before the run / walk set off at 11am in perfect sunshine but howling cold wind. The trail was down the road to the beach and along the beach, wet feet was a certainty thru Huia past the café and the back roads up to the Huia Point look out for the PS & lunch stop. Funny that the highest point in the area was also the most sheltered from the wind and really warm as the lunch stop was going to be back at the beach but it was a cold spot with wind howling in from the Manukau Harbour.

A circle was held at the lunch stop with fines going to the visitors and also to a virgin hasher Joy, Toe Jobs Plus 1, plus a good number of fines from the floor for various misdemeanours. Another circle was held back at the lodge for 2 reasons, one being the GM forgot it was Brucilla’s 600th NSH3 run and that Gwad Knows did a AH3 presentation to FUCT for his 400th AH3 run shirt, the shirt had been sitting in the salt ice cooling down for him.

The walk home from Huia Point was a leisurely one with some doing extra and going up to dam and also visiting the Huia settler’s museum which had opened up in the afternoon. Stories from past happenings in the area told Saturday afternoon and evening.

Saturday dinner was a bang up affair of roast beef with roasted vegetables for the main with a cheese cake for dessert. The rest of the evening was some playing games and the usual downing of the various liquid refreshments.

 

Sunday morning was a little bit wet as had some heavy down pours over night. A hearty breakfast had by all and managed to carry out the recovery run in the dry as well as the clean up after a great weekend with everybody pitching in to make it a really great weekend of hashing for no reason.

GM was named as China. He attempted to protest and commenced what would have been a long

diatribe had he not been interrupted by the pack who drowned him out with ‘Hold it in your Mrs

Murphy..’

Run of the year Nellie – January. This run incapacitated the GM. Good choice.

Worst run of Year – Bighorn. Washed out not too many there and a few food issues. Unlucky for

a bloke who puts so much effort into his runs.
