Wow, 50 years of Wellington Hash House Harriers !!!
So to the day (15 Feb) and almost to the hour a bunch of 50+ runners and walkers headed off from the same spot as the original run was set from from to enjoy the fresh air that Wellington was providing. The hares were Biggles and Dr Lap Sap, who provided a wonderful selection of trails that enable the different skill levels of hashes to criss cross and catch up with each other on different parts of the trails.
The runners enjoyed leaving the walkers at the Mount Victoria velodrome, heading off past the pie shops of Hataitai before joining the walkers back up on the ridge. Those who were keen to go straight to the piss stop were advised that they had to find the sign for the piss stop before they could have their drink, which basically meant walking up to lookout at Mount Victoria and coming back down again to see the sign pointing back to where they had come from. A few beverages were enjoyed top of the hill before people wandered their way down different trails back to the start for the On On.
It was great to see a wide range of people from a number of different hashes there to celebrate the 50 year golden jubilee. Thanks to Biggles for reminding us all of the important date. Great to have PickARseO there as he was at the first run. To Pussy Puppy for putting on a great venison burger themed meal accompanied by a hangi taster supplied by Modess Joe that could be wash down with flagons of Lion Brown. By this stage the wind had got stronger (well over 100kph gusts) and a few spots of rain were being felt so we were very appreciative of the Wellington Canine Obedience Club for providing much needed shelter as we enjoyed catching up over a beer and a meal. Thanks to our everyone who made the day a successful reunion as we will continue celebrating 50 years of Wellington H3 over the year ahead.
