Bays Xmas Run Monday 24th November - TeTeko Raceway Grieve Road

Hosted by Whakatane Hash. Head honcho’s Noodles and Duph.

On a fine sunny blue sky afternoon the hashers came from high mountain lakes and distance surf beaches to the sunny shores of the Eastern Bay of Plenty for the combined Sun City Whakatane, Rotorua and Mount Maunganui Christmas Hash. The annual Xmas run is hosted in a 3 yearly cycle. Sun City as this years host chose the racecourse near Te Teko as the gathering place. Behind the grandstand, under the shade of the trees were drums of cold beer next to barbecues that were frying up meat patties and onions for the wonderful burgers we were to enjoy after the run. Over 50 hashers from near and far came in camper vans, cars, utes and motorhomes.

After some well earned warmup beers in the mounting yard the runners and walkers headed off out towards the gate ... of the racecourse then around back through the horse washing areas and temporary stables, before heading out onto the main course, which these days is mainly used for growing grass. A few hashers were seen trying to get a leg over each ... of the equestrian hurdles while most chose the flat grass to enjoy the long waddle or short sprint along the back straight to the pile of round hay bales for a piss stop. Hare Ducph arrived in the mobile drinks trolley (his van) with all the commentators.  The single choice of drink was some form of fruit cocktail presented in a chilly bin with thimble size cups.

After the run the mares, fillies, stallions and gelding's gathered in the winner's circle to be judged on their performance.  Due prizes and penalties were awarded prior to the next race on the card ... the making of burgers and finishing of cold beers.

Thanks to Ducph getting all his ducphettes in a wiggly line to organise the great night under the distant supervision of local GM Noodles (being supervised by Longtime). Joint events are a great way to gather with old and newish Hashers from just down the road or even from the UK.  As a semi-visitor to Sun City Whakatane H3 it was neat to meet many past Wellington H3 and Ladies Hashers at the run. Looking forward to seeing Hashers in Wellington at some stage and hopefully at the Nash Hash Feb 2027.
