Winter Camp 10-12 July - Lindisfarm Camp - near Timaru

Winter camp started with meet up at pleasant point pub. This was a staggered meetup. Locals amused by the various hash names.

The glorious fine calm day cold but the Alps gleaming in the sunshine on the 2-3 hours drive down from Christchurch.

Friday afternoon and it's the usual settling in and meet old friends. STD during the catering so there was food aplenty. The hash band started up with Dagy Emdef, Xerox Dingaling and others. Very cold overnight but warm inside the hall.

Vasie her usual boisterous self leading some card game where hashers were linked  to various bawdy actions or behaviors.

Saturday morning and STD is on the job early cooking up the storm. Spinner standing guard. The run is signaled for 10:30. Ding-a-Ling is the hare. He advises that the run is not long but challenging. You will get wet and cold he says. Glorious sunshine again but many places coated with frost still  at midday. Trail leads along a 200 meter plank on top of a pipe beside the river. Challenging bush tracks, then we hit the first river crossing. Jungle Bitch is the designated guide for those who do not wish to cross the river.  They head off on the same side of the river on what will eventually be the home trails.

The Hardy “running” pack wade across the freezing cold river hoping that that is the first and last crossing. Fat chance. 3 more crossings, more challenging bush meanders  and a couple of small swamp crossings with shoe swallowing mud are to come. Moles (nearly) knee high gumboots “nearly” keep the water out on the first crossing. Result – freezing cold gumboots full of river crap.   The pisstop is at the 3.5 km mark at the far point of the track along  the river. Both packs converge noting that it is a dry argument, if you were arguing.  Is the PS purely for relieving oneselves.

Dingling arrives in his trusty 4 wheel drive vehicle  in the nick of time with the booze after having to make a hasty journey to get the key to the gate from the local farmer who had forgot to leave it unlocked.  Very enjoyable PS in the fine calm conditions.  Snow gleaming not that far away on the tops of the steep hillsides of the valley  we were in.

The trail back is back along the non-river crossing side of the river, with Jungle Bitch again riding shot gun to look after the stragglers.

Circle back at the ranch led by Christchurch RA’s Cumshot and Spinner. Dagy chimes in from Garden City.  Various fines from the floor and a multitude of downdown songs.

The evening's theme is comic strip characters. Xerox and Mole cause amusement with their tight fitting Luigi and RLD  costurmes. RLD in a contrasting  but matching outfit.

The midnight nude run was brought forward to 10pm cos no one was likely to still be awake at midnight.  4 hardy souls disappeared outside into the sub zero temperatures.  None of them looking very manly.  Mole wisely undressed and dressed outside.

Sunday morning and it's recovery run around the camp followed by the leaving circle. Yet another glorious day. Well done Christchurch hash especially the chef STD and hare Dingaling.
