NOMAD 2024 - Saturday 1st June to Monday 3rd June

Nomad 2024

Coordinator: TRIPOD (Wellington HHH)

Venue: KAWHATAU OUTDOOR CENTRE

Location: 94 Upper Kawhatau Rd, Mangaweka 4749

Kawhatau Outdoor Education Centre (kawhatauoutdoorcentre.co.nz)

King’s Birthday Weekend. Saturday 1st June 1300 until Monday 3rd June 1300

It has bunk rooms with 60 beds, Hall and Kitchen. Was an old school and now looked after by a community trust.

As nobody has put their hand up and I quite enjoy these events so sucker me I guess. We will not do the Friday night this time and it will be a BOG (Bring your own Grog). It was suggested to do the same with the food and if you do not like what is on the menu you have that choice.

Thank you to the people that have already put your hands up to assist with the cooking and much appreciated and accepted. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, relax and have a good time. So we expect everyone to pitch in and assist where possible but basically look after each other and yourselves.

Proposed Menu.

Food will be simple

Saturday Night – Curried sausages and mash spuds

Light Supper – Savouries, Mouse trap toasties

Sunday Breakfast – Self Catered

Cereals, Toast, porridge, eggs

Lunch

BBQ after run

Dinner – Roast Beef in Gravy with veg and spuds

Light Supper – Savouries, Mouse trap toasties

Monday Breakfast – Self Catered

Cereals, Toast, porridge, eggs

The final menu will depend on Numbers. You will need to bring your own cutlery including plate knife fork and spoons, plus a mug. Tea and coffee and milk will be provided. Otherwise BYO.

The run/walk is likely to be on a bush track so bring some suitable shoes. Plenty of scope nearby. Be prepared for the cold and possible rain even snow.

If you are using the accommodation you will need sleeping bag, pillow, Mattress coversheet, towel etc

Time Table

Saturday – Arrive after 1300 as we do not get access until then

Meet and greet with the usual banter. Evening meal and supper. Bring your booze and instruments, song sheets etc. Group Skits most welcome.

Sunday 1000 Run/walk starts. It will most likely be on bush track and a short drive away.

1230 BBQ Lunch

1500 Cocktail hour BYO

1700 – Fines circle

1830 Dinner

2100 Supper etc

Monday

1000 clean up

1100 Quick circle to discuss 2025 and recovery run. Gobble down the left over food.

1200 Start departing. We have to be away from the site by 1300 at the latest

Costs

Accommodation $20 per night ($40) this is the same if using your own campervan or tent.

Fines circle $5 Covers circle booze back at the venue. You will need to bring your own for after the run.

Food cost $20 per day/night ($40)

Total Cost $85 plus BOG. Last year’s event run at a loss and given inflation and the late start this is a really good deal.

If anyone needs a lift from Wellington please contact Tripod.

We need to know numbers ASAP but the very latest date will be 23rd May and money paid as that is when I will start purchasing the food. I am still working through kitchen facilities and if there is space to cool your refreshments. I will advise ASAP. You should be able to leave them outside.

Payment must be paid into the Wellington HHH account number 03-0518-0062740-000 using your hash name as the reference (I will ask DT if this is okay later?)
